I used to be a professional child actor. I started doing theater in elementary school but transitioned into professional shows around Chicago starting in 5th grade. I quit right before high school. I chose USC to be a screenwriter. I love movies and film criticism, and the opportunity to go to the school with the best film program was one I didn’t want to pass up, even if I was going as part of the English department.
The work of a handful of teachers at USC has had the greatest influence on me. Not only did my teachers teach me how to think critically and self-critically, but they taught me diligence, discipline and to not be too hard on myself when I make mistakes.
As I pursue a career as a screenwriter, I will take on “pay-the-rent” jobs such as copyediting and fact-checking articles for Forbes and Food & Wine magazine. The knowledge that I have a group of teachers and classmates who believe in my talent has, and will, help me in the future as I work toward my goals.
